Mad Modern

This Vermont Mountain Modern residence harmoniously integrates aesthetic functionality with the rugged beauty of its surroundings. The home’s design showcases a blend of modern elements and natural materials, creating a tranquil retreat that caters to both family living and entertaining.

Approaching from the driveway, visitors are welcomed by a two-car garage positioned to the left of the formal entry. The home’s exterior is characterized by clean lines, expansive glass panes, and a mix of natural wood and stone materials, seamlessly blending the structure with its Vermont mountain landscape. Upon entering the home, custom-painted cabinetry greets visitors, providing concealed storage solutions. Adjacent to the entry is a series of stained birch storage cabinets and an elegant open staircase that descends to the lower walkout level. This entryway flows into an expansive open-concept kitchen, living, and dining area, where exposed steel beams and large glass windows define the space.

The use of exposed steel is not only a structural necessity but also a design statement, emphasizing the home’s modern aesthetic. The living room features a hearth made from a substantial slab of locally-sourced wood and a waxed steel gas fireplace surround, flanked by large rectangular windows. Furnished with a mix of modern and rustic pieces, the living area exudes warmth and sophistication.

The kitchen is equipped with a central island, custom marble backsplashes, and a seamlessly integrated wall oven. Elegant light fixtures and contemporary plumbing fixtures enhance the modern aesthetic. A hallway off the kitchen leads to several guest bedrooms, a powder room, and the master suite. The minimalist design of the bedrooms and bathrooms focuses on simplicity and functionality. Strategically positioned windows allow natural light to flood the rooms. Custom-fabricated vanities and wall features, such as wall-hung concrete countertops, are designed for ease of cleaning and maintaining a sleek appearance.

A gracefully curved open staircase with a segmented glass railing system connects the main level to the lower floor, which serves as a dedicated space for children and family activities. The family room, complete with a bar alcove and a well-stocked beverage refrigerator, provides a perfect gathering spot for watching movies, playing games, and socializing. A laundry room, separated by a soft-close, rolling barn door, adds to the home's functionality. Bedrooms, including a guestroom/office with a custom-fabricated Murphy bed and a bunk room are connected by opposing hallways. A glass doorway in the family room leads to an outdoor patio and hot tub, with a path connecting to a fire pit area at the forest's edge.

Adjacent to the family room, a mudroom designed with custom built-in closets and a bench addresses the family’s unique needs, especially for skiing activities. Elevated slightly from the family room, the mudroom includes a boot drying system and ample storage space for ski gear. This thoughtful design ensures a smooth transition from outdoor activities to the cozy indoors, maintaining the home's cleanliness and order.
