Kos

The Norwegian term Kos describes a feeling of instant happiness experienced when people feel safe, warm, and together. This feeling was the guiding design ethos for this one-of-a-kind multigenerational home, thoughtfully crafted to foster comfort, connection, and contentment. Nestled seamlessly into the hillside, this multi-level residence is a masterpiece of integration with the landscape. A cleverly designed main stair connects the garage, main entry, mudroom, accessory dwelling, and main living space. Recessed into the wood-clad feature wall is a large, steel Helm of Awe, the Viking symbol for protection, subtly affirming the home's atmosphere of safety and warmth.

At the heart of the home is a vaulted central living core, a gathering space for family and friends that opens seamlessly to the large deck and lawn area via a 24-foot-wide set of bi-parting multi-slide doors. This area serves as a hub of activity and relaxation, blending indoor and outdoor living. The expansive, modern kitchen is a culinary delight, featuring a coffee bar, an island with a built-in pet feeding station, and an open pantry tucked away to the rear of the house. Adjoining the kitchen is a light-filled dining space with large multi-slide doors opening to a rear patio equipped with an outdoor kitchen, perfect for al fresco dining.

Between the kitchen and dining area, a cozy sitting nook offers a place to sit by the main fireplace and enjoy views of the mountains to the West. This space invites quiet moments of reflection or lively conversations with loved ones. A sunken living room “nest,” surrounded by windows and designed to seamlessly integrate a large, ultra-comfortable sectional sofa, faces the back side of the main fireplace, which holds a large recessed television. This nook provides a perfect spot for family movie nights or relaxing with a book. Beyond the kitchen lies a powder room and a bedroom suite, complete with a living space, a bath with a steam shower, and a light-filled bedroom with an adjoining office. This suite offers privacy and comfort, ideal for guests or multigenerational living.

The uppermost level houses an expansive primary suite, a true sanctuary featuring a fireplace, lounge, yoga space, and a private office. The primary bath boasts an elevated tub and shower with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the wooded rear yard, creating a serene retreat within the home. Located over the three-car garage, an accessory dwelling provides additional living space with a kitchen, dining area, living room, primary suite, and nursery. This space opens to the lawn area through a set of multi-slide doors, offering both privacy and proximity to the main house.

This multigenerational home, guided by the spirit of Kos, is a harmonious blend of thoughtful design, functional spaces, and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape, ensuring that every moment spent here is filled with warmth and happiness.
